It's Paris 1875 and twelve-year-old Michelle Marin does not like her piano teacher, the irritable, forgetful and aloof Monsieur Bizet. But Michelle's imagination is quickly captured by the composer's opera Carmen set in Seville, which just happens to be the place where her father is stationed and she fears for his safe return.
