The Baja 1000 is an annual non-stop point-to-point race--usually down the length of Mexico's Baja Peninsula from Tijuana to La Paz--with a 32-hour time limit. A wide variety of vehicles race, including $2 million racing cars, trophy trucks, motorcycles, ATV's, dune buggies, and unmodified pre-1982 VW Beetles. Like a post apocalyptic running of the bulls, the course changes every year, and incorporates dirt back roads, Mexican highways, cities, private ranches, secret checkpoints, and ordinary civilian traffic. There is a winner in every category, and in this race, to finish at all is a victory.
