When 14-year-old William Kamkwamba's Malawi village was hit by a drought in 2001, everyone's crops began to fail. His family didn't have enough money for food, let alone school, so William spent his days in the library. He came across a book on windmills and figured out how to build a windmill that could bring electricity to his village. Everyone thought he was crazy, but William persevered and managed to create a functioning windmill out of junkyard scraps. Several years later, he figured out how to use the windmill for irrigation purposes.

"Ten-year-old Anang wants to make a ribbon skirt, a piece of clothing typically worn by women in the Anishinaabe tradition, for an upcoming powwow. Anang is two-spirit and nonbinary and doesn't know what others will think of them wearing a ribbon skirt, but they're determined to follow their heart's desire. Anang sets off to gather the materials needed to make the skirt and turns to those around them - their family, their human and turtle friends, the crows, and even the lake itself - for help. And maybe they'll even find a new confidence within themself along the way."--Provided by publisher

Title proper from title frame. "Lou has enough confusion in front of her this summer. She'll be working in her family's ice-cream shack with her newly ex-boyfriend--whose kisses never made her feel desire, only discomfort--and her former best friend, King, who is back in their Canadian prairie town after disappearing three years ago without a word. But when she gets a letter from her biological father--a man she hoped would stay behind bars for the rest of his life--Lou immediately knows that she cannot meet him, no matter how much he insists. While King's friendship makes Lou feel safer and warmer than she would have thought possible, when her family's business comes under threat, she soon realizes that she can't ignore her father forever"--Amazon.com.

Pablo Zafirekudo is a 40-year-old member of the Huitoto tribe, one of the many Indigenous tribes that call the Amazon forest home. The Huitotos traditional land is around the Southern Colombian city of Leticia, bordering both Brazil and Peru. Although the Huitoto were traditionally hunter-gatherers, many of the remaining Huitoto people have adapted a westernized lifestyle. Pablo is trying to keep many of his culture's traditions alive, these include singing and dancing, hunting and fishing, basket weaving, cultivating and transforming coca leaves and body painting for special occasions.

Some have called the documentary Canada’s national art form. If it is, the foundations of that art were laid by the National Film Board in the first six years of its existence, 1939û45, under the inspired vision and watchful eye of John Grierson, its first Commissioner. Released in the year of the NFB’s 75th birthday, Shameless Propaganda is filmmaker Robert Lower’s take on the greatest and most compelling propaganda effort in our history. Lower has watched the films produced by the NFB up until 1945—all 500 of them—and distilled the essence of their message to Canadians. Using only these films and still photos from that era, Lower recreates the picture of Canada they gave us and looks in it for the Canada we know today. What he finds is by turns enlightening, entertaining, and unexpectedly disturbing.
