Description based on volume 1, issue 1, June 2022. O.K., K.O., O.K. is a magazine of work by writers and artists from secondary schools in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). The young people who contributed to this magazine were asked to submit work that is personally authentic; that challenges and disrupts past and present colonial narratives; and that inspires increasingly responsible relationships between Métis, Inuit, and First Nations Peoples and non-Indigenous communities now and into the future.

"Christy Ottaviano books." You've likely heard of the historic Apollo 13 [mission]. But do you know about the mathematical genius who made sure that Apollo 13 returned safely home? As a child, Katherine Johnson loved to count. She counted the steps on the road, the number of dishes and spoons she washed in the kitchen sink, everything! Boundless, curious, and excited by calculations, young Katherine longed to know as much as she could about math, about the universe. From Katherine's early beginnings as a gifted student to her heroic accomplishments as a prominent mathematician at NASA, this is the story of a groundbreaking American woman who not only calculated the course of moon landings but, in turn, saved lives and made enormous contributions to history.

This is the story of a determined Ojibwe Grandmother (Nokomis) Josephine Mandamin and her great love for Nibi (Water). Nokomis walks to raise awareness of our need to protect Nibi for future generations, and for all life on the planet. She, along with other women, men, and youth, have walked around all of the Great Lakes from the four salt waters - or oceans - all the way to Lake Superior. The water walks are full of challenges, and by her example Josephine inspires and challenges us all to take up our responsibility to protect our water and our planet for all generations. Her story is a wonderful way to talk with children about the efforts that the Ojibwe and many other Indigenous peoples give to the protection of water - the giver of life.

This is a letter of sisterhood to Malala Yousafzai, expressing the belief that every girl has the right to go to school. The beautiful photos from non-profit Plan International bring together their Because I am a Girl message with Malala Yousafzai's mission. After being shot by the Taliban for the simple act of going to school in her native Pakistan, Malala has become an international girls' rights crusader and the youngest person ever to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Written as a letter from girls around the world to Malala, whom they recognize as a leader, a champion, and a friend.
