In a comic take on the house-that-Jack-built formula, a little boy floats down the river in his own boat supervised from the shore to study the creatures he finds. His efforts to net a fish are unsuccessful until an owl's loud hoot sets of a startled chain reaction amongst the creatures, ending in the fish flying right into Ben's bucket. The book concludes with eight information pages about ecology and the creatures of a northern river ecosystem.

Or worse, if she can't bring herself to speak up, like sometimes happens when facing bullies at school?

"It was almost the first day of winter, and PK still had no skates to wear. This time, PK waited impatiently for one more week before his skates arrived in the mail. With a knock, knock, knock on the door, the mailman delivered the skates in a box. PK couldn't wait to open it. With a cut, cut, cut and a rip, rip, rip, he opened the box and was sad, sad, sad. When PK opened the box, it was empty, empty, empty. He saw no skates for him to wear. Little PK Subban is waiting for the hockey skates his mother ordered for him to come in the mail. PK loves watching hockey on TV with his father, but he can't wait for his skates to arrive so he can finally skate - just like his hockey heroes! With his mother's help, PK's order for black, single blade, size 7 skates is placed. And then he waits. And waits. And every new delivery brings hilarity and dismay as PK receives skates in the wrong size, wrong colour, wrong make, or even a box that is completely empty! All the while, winter approaches and poor PK is so eager to get out on the rink! Even as he wonders if he will ever get to skate, PK's love of hockey pulls him to the sport in funny, imaginative ways. Inspired by Karl's son PK Subban, who once went through a similar saga and is now an NHL star, THE HOCKEY SKATES delivers a story about perseverance and optimism through a series of comical misfortunes - all of which is brought to life by Maggie Zeng's charming illustrations!"--Provided by publisher.

Media tie-in. Based on Disney and Pixar's film Turning Red. Meilin Lee started out like any other thirteen-year-old: hanging out with her friends, dealing with middle school, and helping her family. You know, normal stuff. Then one day ... POOF! Suddenly, she was a GIANT. RED. PANDA. She thought her life was over, but it turned out only to be the beginning. People may think they know the real Meilin, but don't be fooled by the fluffy exterior. This Red Panda Girl has A LOT to say!

Orbiting more than 370 kilometres above Earth in the International Space Station is a tough, alien environment for a human body. There's no gravity to pull fluids out of the brain as there is at home, radiation exposure is far above what we already know can cause cancer and although astronauts work out a couple of hours a day, bones and muscles still quickly lose mass. After more than 50 years of human space travel, those are the health problems we do know. And those trips have mostly been six months at the most. The next giant leap in space aims to get humans much farther into deep space: Mars. Just getting to the red planet would take six months. A full expedition would likely take two to three years. The United States has announced it wants humans to fly by and eventually land on Mars in the 2030s. Considering we don't really know the health effects of travelling in space for more than six months, is it realistic? Dan Riskin invesigates the technology required for humankind to reach Mars and if our bodies would even be able to survive the trip.

Extraordinary things just don't happen to fourteen-year-old Sydelle Mirabil, a talented weaver who dreams about life outside of her tiny village. But that all changes when a mysterious young wizard named Wayland North appears and asks for Sydelle's help. He's got a shocking secret that could stop a war between kingdoms--if he can reach the capital with the news in time. North needs a navigator who can mend his magical cloaks, and Sydelle is perfect for the job. As Sydelle and North race against the clock to deliver their message, they must contend with unusually wild weather and a dark wizard who will do anything to stop them. But the sudden earthquakes and freak snowstorms may not be a coincidence. As Sydelle discovers more about North's past and her own strange abilities, she realizes that the fate of the kingdom may rest in her fingertips.
