From the Curio channel: News in Review. COVID-19 was first detected in December 2019 and quickly spread across the globe, infecting more than 75 million people and killing over 1.6 million by the end of the first year. As the disease resurged with a second wave, scientists and medical professionals around the world were in a tight race to develop an effective vaccine. In November 2020, pharmaceutical companies Pfizer, Moderna and Oxford-AstraZeneca all announced their vaccines showed good results in trial stages. Both Pfizer and Moderna developed gene-based vaccines and both firms declared 95 per cent efficacy. Within weeks, Pfizer's vaccine was being shipped around the world. Canada gave its first vaccine injection on December 14, 2020.

From the Curio channel: News in Review. Within days of taking up his role as president of the United States, Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders. One such order suspended all refugees from entering the U.S. and banned travellers from seven predominantly Muslim countries. And it affected many foreign-born Americans, even those with visas and green cards. The ban drew immediate outrage and criticism both in America and around the world. But as the courts decided on the legality of the order, it was the constitution of the United States that was under challenge.

"A Groundwork guide by Shelley Tanaka"--Cover. Climate change is here, and it's real -- How we got here -- How the climate system works -- Effects of climate change -- Frightening numbers -- Tough questions -- Facing the music. Climate change has been called the single greatest threat facing the planet, but there is little consensus about how to deal with it. The problem is vast, the science complex, and the economic, political, and social implications of taking action are immense. It is an issue of particular importance to young adults, who will inherit the consequences created by today's policy makers. This book addresses the key questions surrounding this issue: What is the basic science behind climate change? Why is it difficult for people to accept what is going on? What is going to happen in the future, and what can be done about it? Perhaps most importantly, the book acknowledges that the issue involves much more than agreeing on the underlying science. Climate change is an emotionally charged political and philosophical issue as well, one that affects how governments and industry form policy, the choices people make in their daily lives, and the kind of world that awaits future generations.

Between 1975 and 1978, Parks Canada took control of the Lachine Canal, prompting a $100 million federal investment from 1984 to 2001. Real estate began booming in 1996, and from 2010 onward, a condo boom intensified gentrification, driving up property values and transforming Griffintown into a "build it and they will come" neighborhood. Mathew Barlow closes with his reflection on how Griffintown could have been redeveloped differently. In this five-part series, Griffintown: A People's History, historian Dr. Matthew Barlow recounts the fascinating social history of Griffintown, a former industrial neighbourhood just south of downtown Montreal, that has all but disappeared.

In this explosive episode, we find out how geology, chemistry, physics and even creativity go into understanding volcanoes. We learn volcanoes are different ages and sizes and also have labels such as active, dormant and extinct, and cone, shield and composite.

Kai and Anostin travel to Iceland - the land of fire and ice! They meet Volcanologist Dr. Rikke Pedersen who explains the volcanology of Iceland and the differences between the types of eruptions. The Hawaiian islands were also created from volcanoes.
We talk with Indigenous Hawaiian geophysicist Dr. Jim Kauahikaua who studies volcanic activity in Hawaii, drawing from science, story and history.
Commander John Herrington explains how volcanoes are one of the most powerful forces of nature.
Kai shows us his rockin’ volcanorock collection, while the Cosmic Surfer visits some famous volcanoes.

For the life of him, William "Scoob" Lamar can't seem to stay out of trouble--and now the run-ins at school have led to lockdown at home. So when G'ma, Scoob's favorite person on Earth, asks him to go on an impromptu road trip, he's in the RV faster than he can say FREEDOM. With G'ma's old maps and a strange pamphlet called the "Travelers' Green Book" at their side, the pair takes off on a journey down G'ma's memory lane. But adventure quickly turns to uncertainty: G'ma keeps changing the license plate, dodging Scoob's questions, and refusing to check Dad's voice mails. And the farther they go, the more Scoob realizes that the world hasn't always been a welcoming place for kids like him, and things aren't always what they seem--G'ma included.

Elsewhere in the universe, the God of Destruction, Beerus, and his attendant Whis are traveling from planet to planet in search of food and entertainment. After blowing up some hapless victims, Beerus is reminded of a man from his dreams with the moniker “Super Saiyan God,” or something like that... The God of Destruction sets his sights on Earth to track down this mysterious man! Maybe this will give Goku something to do?
