The RIGHTING CANADA'S WRONGS series is devoted to the exploration of the mostly unknown, and often shocking, stories of Canadian government's racist actions against various ethnic groups through our history, the fight for acknowledgement and justice, and the eventual apologies and restitution of subsequent governments. In this Resource Guide you will find seven lessons that will engage your students while they learn about some of the important events in Canada's history that helped shape our current multicultural society. You will find support for teaching about Canada's past treatment of ethnic minorities and how to approach the topic of racism. As well, your students will learn about the important roles that these minorities have played in Canadian society.

From the Curio.ca streaming audio-visual collection. Have you heard the word reconciliation before? It comes up a lot around Orange Shirt Day, which is marked every year on September 30 as a day to raise awareness about the horror faced by Indigenous people who were forced to attend Canadian residential schools. In 2021, Canada announced that September 30 would officially be called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and federal workers would be given the day off in order to acknowledge that history. But what does reconciliation even mean?

The third book in the early chapter book series The Nguyen Kids features the youngest sibling, Jacob, and continues the series’ exploration of social justice themes, specifically gender expression and identity, with a supernatural twist. Thoughtful and creative, Jacob is tired of being the baby of the family. He is ready to fully express himself in all of the ways that feel right to him, but not everyone seems as eager to accept change—even his own parents. He still loves hockey, yet he also wants to try something new, even if others may not understand. Confused and frustrated, Jacob turns to the beautiful fan his Grandma Nội gave him, which features all of the Vietnamese zodiac animals. With the mysterious fan and memories of Grandma guiding him, Jacob finds the power to remain true to himself, and show his family who he could be.

The climate is changing, game is disappearing, and two peoples of the Ice Age compete for survival in a savage world. Keena, from a powerful band of Neanderthals, and Shinoni, daughter of a Cro-Magnon shaman, are torn from their families by Haken, a ruthless hunter. The girls dislike each other, but soon discover they need each other to survive. Together they escape, but are pursued by Haken across an Ice-Age landscape rumbling with advancing glaciers and teeming with mighty predators. As Shinoni and Keena work to overcome disaster at every turn, they are joined by Tewa, a powerful she-wolf, who becomes their guardian and spirit guide. Can their growing friendship overcome cultural, racial, and even species differences? Will they ever be able to find their families? Only the spirits know.

He can't tell his best friend, who he's secretly got a crush on, and he can't tell his mom, who's constantly asking why Ryo 'dresses like a boy.' He certainly can't tell Jin, the new transfer student who looks like just another bully... The only time Ryo feels at ease is when he's wearing his favorite clothes. Then, and only then, the world melts away, and he can be his true self. One day, while out shopping, Ryo sees someone he didn't expect: Jin. The kid who looked so tough in class has the same taste in fashion as him! At last, Ryo has someone he can open up to -- and the journey ahead might finally give him a way to express himself to the world.

Rotshennón:ni Two-Axe, 18, and Kayla Spencer-Young, 20, are two of the handful of Indigenous students studying science at Dawson College in Montreal. Indigenous students are severely underrepresented in STEM programs. Kayla, who comes from a northern Cree community, knows how tough it is for Indigenous students, especially those from remote communities, to imagine themselves in the sciences so she and pal Rotshennón:ni hatched a plan: to start a hands-on science activity club for their Indigenous peers. They bring host Joshua Odjick and other students into the lab to dissect a moose heart and take him and a group to the Planetarium to marvel at the Northern Lights. By combining Two Eyed Seeing and western science perspectives in every outing, the two college students help their peers see that science can be fun and accessible. Warrior Up! is a 13 part documentary series that follows inspiring Indigenous youth making positive change in their communities!

Parrots, anacondas, chimpanzees, and tigers - even though they come from completely different parts of the world, they all live in the same ecosystem - the tropical rainforest. This ecosystem is found in the tropical climate zone, which stretches along the equator and is characterised by a constantly warm and humid climate. In this film, you will learn that a significant portion of the world's plant and animal species lives in the tropical rainforest, and you will be introduced to some of its many inhabitants. The film also highlights that many medicines and foods have their origins here. You will also discover why the rainforest is globally important, as it binds enormous amounts of carbon, thereby slowing down climate change, but it is constantly under threat from humans.
