From the Curio channel: News in Review. Two murder cases highlighting issues of vigilantism and racial injustice were heard in U.S. courts in November 2021. Kyle Rittenhouse, who was just 17 years old at the time, was accused of shooting two men and injuring another during a racial justice demonstration in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Meanwhile, three men stood accused of shooting Ahmaud Arbery, a black jogger in a Georgia neighbourhood. In both cases, the defendants pleaded self defence. But the cases had very different outcomes. The verdicts came just days apart with Rittenhouse going free and guilty verdicts for Arbery's killers.

From the Curio channel: News in Review. Frustration is boiling over in Alberta, Canada's economic heartland, over federal energy policies and a feeling that Ottawa simply doesn't care. After disappointment in the last federal election, talk of separation is serious, no longer just a joke. Premier Danielle Smith has even loosened rules to make a separation referendum easier. While a recent poll shows 60% of Albertans want to stay, a group is actively petitioning for an independence vote. Is the 'Alberta Divide' a serious threat to Canada's future?
