Title proper from title frame. ". . . Marie, an Algonquin woman of the Weskarini Deer Clan, lost her first husband and her children to an Iroquois raid. In the aftermath of another lethal attack, her chief begs her to remarry for the sake of the clan. Marie is a healer who honours the ways of her people, and Pierre, the green-eyed ex-soldier from France who wants her for his bride, is not the man she would choose. But her people are dwindling, wracked by white men's diseases and nearly starving every winter as the game retreats away from the white settlements. If her chief believes such a marriage will cement their alliance with the French against the Iroquois and the British, she feels she has no choice. Though she does it reluctantly, and with some fear--Marie is trading the memory of the man she loved for a man she doesn't understand at all, and whose devout Catholicism blinds him to the ways of her people . . ."--OCLC.

Hurricane Dorian killed over 70 people - though numbers could be higher with so many still unaccounted for. Homes, cars, boats and infrastructure were completely destroyed. Months later, residents are still trying to rebuild. Now they're getting some extra help from Canada. CBC reporter David Common went to the Bahamas in early 2020 to see how the rebuilding was coming along, and found a people of great resilience.

From the Curio channel: News in Review. For most of this century health officials thought they had measles under control. The development of a vaccine back in 1963 enabled mass immunization and much of the western world was declared measles-free. But in 2019 the disease made a big comeback in much of the world, including Canada. Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease that is spread through a virus. World Health Organisation officials say its comeback here can be attributed to vaccine-hesitancy.

Everything you will hear is based on historic sources, such as personal letters and diaries, describing the siege of the city. Nearly 20 military and civilian witnesses tell their story. For a clearer picture of events, they are grouped together under four categories: French, Canadian, British and Indigenous. Throughout this emotionally charged account, listen to the echo of those who lived through turbulent times of war.
From the Curio.ca streaming audio-visual collection. At the intersection of two busy Toronto streets, Bloor and Bathurst, sits the iconic landmark Honest Ed's. Recognized for its cheeky slogans and bright flashing signs, Honest Ed's has shaped the neighbourhood surrounding it. Ever since Ed Mirvish, a business-savvy Jewish-American immigrant, opened the store in 1948, it has served as a beacon for diverse communities and a meeting place for recent immigrants to Toronto. In 2013, Honest Ed's and the surrounding buildings - a retail area and artist colony known as Mirvish Village - were sold, to be redeveloped into high-end apartments. This documentary follows the store and neighbourhood as the community is at a tipping point.

From the Curio channel: News in Review. The arrest of a top executive from Chinese company Huawei has placed Canada in the middle of a political tug of war. In December 2018, Canadian authorities detained Meng Wanzhou at the Vancouver airport at the request of U.S. law officials. Meng is the daughter of the founder of Huawei, the largest technical communications company in the world. She remains in Canada while awaiting possible extradition to the U.S. on charges of fraud and violating international sanctions. Her arrest has heightened diplomatic tensions between China and Canada while also raising security concerns about giving Huawei access to Canada's 5G network.
