The police investigation led to the arrest of the family's next door neighbour, Guy Paul Morin. Morin would be tried twice and end up serving 18 months in prison before being acquitted. But Morin's full exoneration wouldn't come until 2020. That's when police announced they found the real killer, Calvin Hoover, a former family acquaintance, who died by suicide in 2015. It was an innovative DNA matching technique called genetic genealogy that would prove he was the killer.
