Raised in a refugee camp in the West Bank while her mother was in prison, Walaa dreams of becoming a policewoman in the Palestinian Security Forces (PSF). Despite discouragement from her family, even her beloved brother Mohammed, Walaa applies and gets in. But her own rebellious behaviour and complicated relationship with her mother are challenging, as are the circumstances under which she lives.

Following Walaa from 15-21, with an intimate POV, What Walaa Wants is the compelling story of a defiant young girl navigating formidable obstacles, learning which rules to break and follow, and disproving the negative predictions from her surroundings and the world at large.

Thailand is synonymous with party tourism. The Mona Lisa has become a selfie backdrop. With the commodification of cultures and traditions is authentic travel still possible? And how does a destination like Las Vegas measure up?

From the Curio channel: News in Review. Many people know Canada was a haven for Black refugees escaping slavery in the United States in the 1800s. However, few realize that for over 200 years, the early colonies of Canada permitted slavery. Black and Indigenous slaves were sold and treated like property, and not recognized as human beings. Now, Black Canadians are presenting petitions to the government, calling for a formal apology.

Primates such as monkeys, apes, lemurs and humans share common characteristics. In Madagascar, the crowned lemur babies are cared for by the family as they grow up. They have flexible shoulders like us, their hands can grasp branches, and they communicate vocally. Monkeys arrived in South America from Africa long before humans did. Squirrel monkeys and Capuchin monkeys teach their babies how to do things for themselves, and play is an important way of learning. Dad protects the family colony in the wild. Snow monkey mothers hold their babies close to keep them warm and the family group grooms each other as an important social behaviour. The whole troop disciplines and protects the young. Great Apes and Orangutans are the primates that are most like humans, and raising their babies can take up to 7 years. Older offspring help raise the younger ones, just like they do in human families. Great apes have no tails, and are the most intelligent of primates, using tools to get food. When we observe primates, we can see many similarities to ourselves.

Are you getting the best bang for your buck? And are your host destinations benefitting? In Cancun, often less than 20 cents of every dollar stays locally. The French Riviera has managed to diversify its tourism industry in keeping up with the digital age and a luxury hotel on Canada’s Fogo Island is reinventing the business model of travel and tourism.

Misho and Robin travel to the seaside. Misho hurries into the sea while Robin wants to sunbathe. After exploring the seabed, Misho brings Robin a fallen star. When they agree it's a starfish, he returns it into the water. Next he finds a "sea chestnut" turning out to be a sea urchin. Finally, he brings Robin a beautiful shell, which turned out to have legs. And claws. It was the hermit crab that was responsible for Robin's first dip in the sea.

From the TVO streaming audio-visual collection. Expires on: November 1, 2030. Tourism is in constant evolution from where we go to how we get there and what we do once we arrive. But with a projected 4.3 billion people expected to travel every year by 2050, have we reached peak tourism? How does the industry continue to democratize and how will it adapt to the challenges it faces? Norway’s push for a zero emissions future is on the move.
