From the Curio channel: News in Review. The boreal forest is often referred to as Canada's lungs when it comes to halting climate change. The forest takes in billions of tons of carbon in exchange for oxygen. But in 2023, Canada saw an unprecedented year of forest fires, releasing tons of that CO2 back into the atmosphere. So what's the impact? Is climate change creating the perfect storm for even more devastating wildfires?

On April 19, 1907, a hundred thousand people lined up to watch the eighth running of the Boston Marathon. At the start of the race, more than one hundred runners surged forward, and at the end, Tom Longboat won it in a record-breaking four minutes, forty-six seconds. He became the most famous runner in the world, yet faced scrutiny and criticism of every part of his life, from his revolutionary training techniques to his Indigenous heritage. After the peak of his running career, Tom volunteered for military service in World War I. He survived, and faced further challenges upon his return. But Tom Longboat continued to live his life on his own terms, and his legacy as Canada's foremost distance runner continues to be recognized to this day.

Frost occurs when the outside temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius, the freezing point of water. When this happens, the moisture in the air turns into small ice crystals that can stick to surfaces, creating frost. We also learn that: sublimation is when frost evaporates and becomes water vapour; types of frost include hoar frost, rime frost, and window frost (aka fern frost); frost can damage plants and crops; you can create frost in your freezer.
