See the subject through a grid of squares drawn on Plexiglas or acetate. Observe how lines that describe the subject enter and leave each grid square. Students learn how to use an air-grid with a stiff arm and pencil to observe horizontal, vertical and angled lines in the subject. Using that same pencil as a unit of measure, they learn to observe proportions within the subject.
