The year is 1578 and Queen Elizabeth I is on the throne. Beatie has a strange home life, her father is a highway robber and her mother keeps disappearing for days at a time. Her parents are desperate for her to marry one of her cousins so that they can keep their land in the family. She later finds a young man nearly dead, hiding in a old hut and decides to heals him. Slowly as he heals, a passion develops between them, one which can never be acknowledged.
