Designed to introduce elementary school students to environmental design in visual art and the community. In this program, environmental design refers to all human-designed structures and outdoor areas. These environments include our homes, schools, parks, bridges, roadways, and waterways. They are the spaces and places where people meet, play, work, and live, and they were all designed by someone. Environmental design is presented here as a subject matter in visual art and as an art form itself. In each lesson, a selected art reproduction is introduced, and background information on the art, artist, and environmental design concepts is given. The program emphasizes five themes -- buildings, interiors, planning, landscapes, and preservation.
