Tishialuk Girls was composed by Charlie Lloyd in the early part of the 20th century. The story of the song takes place in a small, isolated fishing village (an outport) in Labrador. Charlie Lloyd wanted to marry Martha Cove, the most popular Tishialuk girl. Sam Cove, Martha's father, refused to let the 2 young people marry and so Charlie Lloyd composed Tishialuk Girls as a protest. Song was passed orally without being written down until it was collected by Tim Borlase who shared with Nancy Telfer who arranged it for SSA choir & piano in 1992.
