This unit will focus on two dance forms: Ballet and Modern Dance. Students learn about the historical development of the forms. They examine current trends in each form and its place in their local community, as well as in the larger communities of the province and/or the country. Where applicable, a global perspective of the form is included. Opportunities for composing within the form, using the technique acquired in Units 1 and 2, will be provided. In addition, the unit focused on integrating writing and research. Student learning includes creating Ballet and Modern Dance compositions, comparing the two dance forms, and focusing on scientific and safety principles. Teachers can use this unit as a structural base. They may prefer to use two different dance forms based on their background and experience in dance and on the demographics of their students.
