Night beat with its almost constant staccato bass line in the first and last sections, reminds one of a busy city street at night. The dissonances, found mostly in some of the sixteenth note passages, represent the loud clamor found in the street life at night. While in contrast, the slow middle section depicts a brief rest as one steps into a quiet shop along the way.
