The story of Viola Desmond, who in November 1946, decided to take in a movie at the Roseland Theatre in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. The theatre was racially segregated and Ms. Desmond, who was black, sat in the wrong place and was asked to leave. She resisted and the result was a legal battle fought all the way to the Nova Scotia Supreme Court.
