Episode 3-- Having bolstered British morale during the Luftwaffe's bombing campaign against London, Churchill turns his attention to enlisting American assistance in the war effort. Stalin thought he could count on his alliance with Germany to protect the Soviet Union from the war sweeping through Europe but Germany invades, sweeping through Russia with brutal efficiency. With a skillful appeal to Russian nationalism, Stalin convinces millions to take up arms. In Canada, efforts are made to bring women into the war effort. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor changes everything, bringing the Americans into the war. Episode 4-- Explores how all combatants adjusted their propaganda in 1943 when the balance of the war began to shift. The British/Canadian raid on Dieppe, an attempt to create some good news for the Allies, fails spurring a cover-up in Canada and becoming fodder for the Nazi propaganda machine. Hollywood takes up the cause, growing American support for U.S. involvement. In Nazi-occupied France a brutal roundup of Jewish families sends a shiver through Paris. On the Eastern front, the Germans attack Stalingrad. Trapped in another Russian winter, morale plummets while Goebbels holds out hope for a victory until a succession of losses forces him into another direction.
