Spiders belong to a family called arachnids. A fear of spiders is called arachnophobia. Spiders are found almost everywhere on earth; most often amongst plants. Although spiders are predators, most are not harmful to humans. Diverse in form and size, spiders are different from insects in that they have no antenna, two body sections and four pairs of legs. They are oviparous, meaning their babies come from eggs and they display distinct male and female sexes. The silk produced in spinnerets is used as a trap for prey, as home sites, as casings for eggs, and for ballooning.
