In an attempt to save his daughter's life, Eva's father sends her from Poland to a labor camp in Czechoslovakia where she and her sister survive the war. The story is based on the actual experiences of the author's mother-in-law, Eva Buchbinder, during her internment in a Nazi labor camp in Czechoslovakia from 1943 through 1945.
