The resource addresses Ontario Science and Technology curriculum expectations from Grade 6: Electricity and Electrical Devices. (Teachers of grades 5/6 combine classes can adapt many of the activities to teach Grade 5: Energy Conservation and Grade 6:Applications of Electricity. This resource aims to excite grade 6 students by engaging them in rich performance tasks. The three rich performance tasks in this resource reflect new developments in renewable energy, specifically solar electricity. The tasks, which include a series of related ?training activities,? help students to learn the fundamental concepts of solar energy, explore the larger questions and big ideas regarding the role of solar PV in Ontario's future, and dive into the challenge of solar array design.
