When humankind discovers a mammoth robotic being beneath Arctic ice, subsequent study catapults science eons into the future. A covert government agency launches the spaceship Ghost I in an effort to discover the robot's extraterrestrial origins, but when a mishap maroons the craft in the far reaches of space, the ship's distress beacon reaches the very alien race the crew of the Ghost I seeks: the Autobots.
