At the end of this activity, students should be able to recognize the different reproductive adaptations among classes of vertebrates, recognize the differences in the structure and function of the egg among classes of vertebrates, recognize the adaptations that enable the embryos of reptiles, birds and mammals to become independent from the aquatic environment, recognize how parents participate in the postembryonic development of their offspring, especially in birds and mammals, and recognize the similarities between representatives of classes of vertebrates in regard to the development of the embryo inside the mother's body.
