The lesson examines linear equations in two variables and their graphs. Students begin by writing linear equations and learning the general form of the equation y = ax + b. Students see how a table of values for the two variables leads to graphing the equation as a straight line. They see the relationship between the coordinates of points on the graph of a straight line and the pairs of values that satisfy the equation of that line. Students also examine the equation and graph of horizontal and vertical lines. Finally, students identify equations of lines from their graphs.
