This book series is a small representation of the everyday language learning that goes on in the Ojibwe language program at Riverbend school. Anishnaabemowin is recognized as part of the Algonquian language group. In some places it is known as Saulteaux, Ojibwe, Chppewa, or Nakawe. There are many dialecs of Anishnaanemowin spoken across a vast geography including representation on Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Kansas, and Oklahoma in the United States. No single dialect is considered the most prominent and no standard writing system represents all dialects. Although the dialects vary widely, they share some common features today including the use of Roman orthography along with a Double Vowel Writing system.
