The face of comic books began to change in the twenty-first century as artists and creators moved beyond typical superhero themes. A new generation of comics creators focused on nontraditional characters including females, ethnic and religious minorities, and LGBTQ figures. Whatever the fears, hopes, and dreams of people in a changing world, comic book artists will be there to illustrate the good and the bad, using panels on a page to reimagine the future as the inclusive and diverse world they wish it to be.
