Au musée du Centre commémoratif de l'Holocauste à Montréal, est exposé un tout petit livre en forme de coeur sur la couverture duquel est brodé un F. Pliées à la façon d'un origami, les pages sont remplies des souhaits de douze femmes à l'intention d'une certaine Fania Feiner qui, le 12 décembre 1944, fêtait son vingtième anniversaire dans la fabrique de munitions du camp d'Auschwitz. Après avoir retrouvé en Ontario ladite Fania, aujourd'hui une octogénaire sans grand souvenir de ses anciennes camarades d'infortune, le documentariste québécois Carl Leblanc part à la recherche de ces dernières à travers la planète, afin de mieux comprendre les circonstances entourant la création de ce livre exceptionnel. De son côté, la fille de Fania entreprend avec sa propre fille un voyage à Auschwitz et dans les autres camps où sa mère a été internée, dans le but d'éclairer les zones d'ombre de son histoire familiale. A filmmaker goes on a search to discover how a beautiful hand made birthday book came to be within the walls of a concentration camp, who its makers were, and how it came to survive the horrors of war and decades after to end up in the Holocaust memorial in Montreal. This feature documentary is the story of the authors of the book, a book made in the shape of a heart and given on December 12, 1944 to celebrate the 20th birthday of Fania, a prisoner in Auschwitz. It contains the wishes of its authors who made it at the risk of losing their lives. In the heart of evil, they committed a crime of humanity. In his attempt to find the authors, the filmmaker tries to bring the women's beautiful gesture back to life.
