In this live-action program viewers will learn that a common form of asexual reproduction, without requiring gametes, flowers, seeds or fruits, is fragmentation. As the word implies, fragments of the parent organism split or break off. Students will come to understand that fragmentation occurs through mitosis and differentiaton. They will discover that mitosis is the process in the cell cycle during which cells duplicate into two genetically identical daughter cells, or clones. The program discusses how fragmentation is an essential property of plants for agriculture because it can be used to rapidly propagate plants.
