"A book based on the material that made up the 2011 Swedish documentary film "The Black Power Mixtape, 1967-1975 : a documentary in 9 chapters." That film, directed by Göran Olsson, examines the evolution of the Black Power Movement in American society from 1967 to 1975. The original film footage was shot by a group of Swedish journalists and discovered some 30 years later in the cellar of Swedish Television. The original film is overlaid with commentaries and interviews from leading contemporary African-American artists, activists, musicians and scholars, and includes appearances by Stokely Carmichael, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Eldridge Cleaver, Bobby Seale, Huey P. Newton, Emile de Antonio, Angela Davis and commentaries by Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Harry Belafonte, Kathleen Cleaver, Angela Davis, Robin Kelley and Abiodun Oyewole, amongst others. Only a fraction of the original recorded material made it in to the documentary film. This book is an attempt to let some of the great things that had to be left out of the film become public"--Provided by publisher.
