This picture book biography tells the story of Henrietta Szold, founder of the charity Hadassah. Disturbed by the prejudice and lack of opportunities she saw Jewish immigrants endure in the late 19th century, she opened a night school to teach English. In 1912 she founded Hadassah to provide Palestinian children of all faiths with much-needed food, healthcare, and education. Inspired by the Jewish story of Esther, she worked tirelessly to rescue Jewish children from Germany and the Soviet Union, saving over 11,000 children and finding them safe homes. Henrietta's story provides a model for social justice and how to work for it, no matter the obstacles.
