A natural resource that's a huge export for Canada, copper can be found in your electronics, pots, roofs, paint, jewelry... and inside spiders! Copper in the blood of spiders, mollusks and crustaceans makes blood blue - in contrast to iron in the hemoglobin of mammals that makes our blood red. This Element of Surprise segment features the following experts: John Pezacki, Professor, Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences, University of Ottawa; Peter Gordon, Facility Administrator, NanoFab, Carleton University; and Hridaynath Bhattacharjee, Postdoctoral Fellow, Chemistry, Queen's University.
