Hydrogen, the very first element in the periodic table, is a fuel. When it reacts with oxygen, it releases a lot of clean energy. Our sun is composed mostly of hydrogen, and the fusion process to generate the sun’s energy needs hydrogen. This Element of Surprise segment features the following experts: Bill Ogilvie, Associate Professor, Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences, University of Ottawa, and Jeff Manthorpe, Associate Professor, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Carleton University.
