In 1917, John is immobilized on a battlefield, his mind filled with memories. By 1920, he’s back in North Yorkshire, not fully recovered. He reunites with Helena, an artist, and resumes his photography business. However, the past haunts him as ghosts appear in his photos, communicating messages he can’t decipher.
