Fifteen interrelated stories explore different aspects of love and community in often-difficult environments: a dying father wants his wife and daughters to realize the dream of staring a family business, the Curl-E-Que beauty salon; a young man finds love in Iraq while he struggles to survive in a war he doesn't want to fight; a teenage mother discovers her own beauty in the love of her child; and an eight-year-old girl cares for her recovering addict mother and tries to get her brother to preschool.
