Samuel de Champlain played a paramount role in the establishing of France's colony in North America. During his lifetime Champlain brought thousands of settlers to New France, established the Catholic Church, founded Quebec city and Montreal, built trading posts and forts, created alliances with Native Peoples and gave New France a solid foundation from which to grow.
